Hope

It really irks me when I hear Americans suggest that our new President will fail. When America made an error in judgment and let George W. Bush steal the election in 2000, and again in 2004, I never hoped he would fail. For, hoping he would fail would mean I hoped for the failure of America, and I never hope for the failure of America. I love my country. I know how lucky I am to be a citizen of this country.

To suggest that I made an uneducated decision because I voted for Obama is ignorant. Yes, there is a percentage of the voting population who may have just been swept away and voted for him because they "like him". But is that so bad? I know why I voted for him. Yes, I like him, but I love what he stands for. I love that he will protect my reproductive rights. I love that he wants to make healthcare available to every citizen. I love that he wants to give teachers raises AND make them more accountable. I was very informed when I walked into my polling place and voted for the next President.

There is hope in the air. I can feel it and see it. In his speech, Obama said, "In this country, we rise or fall as one nation, as one people. Let’s resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long."

It doesn't matter who you voted for, who you supported, what matters is that he is our President and he needs our support now. Nothing will be gained by wishing for his failure. I chose hope over fear.
