Goodbye Sevin Stitches

I know when to toss in the towel.  I am not a two-blog Mommy.  I started Sevin Stitches because I thought I needed to separate my crafting from my family.  Well, I learned that crafting and my family are so co-mingled that it was impossible to separate them.  The other day I was lamenting to my Mom that the sweater I was knitting might be a little small.  I tried it on and showed her comparing it to the photo on the pattern.  Cameron pipes up and says, "You know, Mommy, I think that sweater is nice.  You should keep going."

Not to mention the fact that I hadn't posted on Sevin Stitches since February.  I have imported all the Sevin Stitches posts into Sevin Sweetness and labeled them Sevin Stitches.  Done.  Goodbye Sevin Stitches.

This brings me to my thoughts on blogging.  I started this blog in June 2006.  It was a way for me to keep my family and friends updated on all the goings-on in our humble little lives.  Over the past (almost) four years the blog has evolved a little, but not much.  It is still a family blog.  Would I like it to be more?  Eh, maybe.  Do I wish more people read it?  Eh, that's not important to me.  What is important is that I am preserving memories so my children have something to read when they are older.

I have every faith that this blog will be around forever, but there is a part of me that doubts.  I've seen "Terminator".  What if computers and robots start taking over the world and, just for fun, they start deleting all our blogs?  That would be terrible.  That is why I started going back to my old posts and printing out the stories and photos to be put in albums and scrapbooks.  Crazy?  Probably, but it makes me feel better.

This blog is still about my family, but it can also be about me too.  When I was in middle school I kept journals.  Lots and lots of journals filled with lots and lots of thoughts.  Silly stuff about the boys I liked, my friends, how much I LOVED Joey from "The New Kids On The Block" (before they were NKOTB)!!!  That's what this blog is for me now.  It's like my personal journal.  It's about me, my family, and how I feel about those things every day.  I am not so vain to think that anyone is hanging on my every word, but of course I am giddy whenever I get a comment (thank you to the 10 people who read my blog and comment!)  It is real, as real as me.  My favorite blogs to read are the ones that feel like I am reading a personal journal, not a copy or imitation of a thousand other blogs out there.

I want to spend time with my kids and my husband.  That is what is most important to me right now.  I want to knit, I want to sew and I want to learn more about photography.  I know I can't do it all, so blogging comes last.  I do not ever want to be one of those people who spend so much time on the computer that their "real world" is the blogosphere.  I love my blog community, don't get me wrong.  It's just that "Life" comes first for me.

I know I will continue blogging, and over time this blog will evolve.  For now I am happy for the creative outlet and for my loyal readers.  Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!

  1. I've been thinking it might be time to let my craft blog go as well since I haven't posted anything there in nearly 6 months. We'll see... I love reading your blog and getting updated on your life, so keep posting! :)

  2. I totally agree! My blog is so personal and about me: the woman, wife, mother, friend, crafter, teacher, homemaker, etc....it would be too hard to seperate those aspects of myself! Keep blogging...it is such a great way to journal! (I also was a prolific journaler in my younger days!) Adieu Sevin Stitches...

  6. Very nice post. I couldn't agree with you more. I want my blog to be a collection for my kids to look back on and read. I know we started ours as a way for people to see that life can still go on...and go on well...even after going gluten free. It has become so much more than that...but I'm not posting as much as I used to. Which, like you said, is a good thing. Time should be spent outside of the "blogging world" rather than just reading and typing every little thing. Your so inspirational...thanks! :)
