Ten Things Thursday

Ten luxuries I can't afford:

1. A hair cut. I think it has been about two years since I have had my hair cut. It's not the cost that is holding me back (well, that's not the biggest reason, anyway). I just can't seem to find the time. Really, I'm not trying to be one of those martyr Moms who sacrifices everything for myself in the name of my children. I just never seem to get around to the part where I take care of myself.

2. A pedicure. Summer is over and I never got around to getting a pedicure. My feet are calloused and gross. (sorry for the mental picture, but it's true!)

3. A Digital SLR Camera. My camera takes nice photos, but they are not beautiful like Christa'sKelly'sKatrina's and Lisa's. This is not a case of "keeping up with the Jones" or wanting it because everyone else has one. I want to be able to take better photos of my kids and my handmade items. I am picking one waitress shift per week and putting 20% of my tips from that night in my camera fund, so maybe by Christmas I'll be able to buy myself a gift!

4. This. My husband has stopped being cooperative.

5. Sleep. OK, well that is not a luxury, it is a necessity, but it seems I am getting less and less of it lately.  Every day I tell myself I will go to bed early, but it never seems to happen. The only hours I have to myself seem to be between the hours of 9 p.m. and midnight and that is when I get things done.

6. A New Car. All my life I have never had a brand new car. I have always bought a used car and have always "settled" for the car that I didn't really want, but the payment was right. Buying new is not an option for many reasons. The main reason being that the depreciation of a new car is so great that as soon as you drive it off the lot, you may as well have bought a used car. While I will never buy a new car, in five years I will buy the car that I want. That is assuming we actually need a car at the time, because, lets face it, I am a little bit frugal.

7. A laptop. I just think it would be so great for my computer to be mobile. To be able to sit on my porch with a cup of coffee and blog would be so wonderful!

8. A boat. Living in the area we do, I would love to have a boat. Nothing fancy. Maybe just a small bow rider or a pontoon. It is something we will probably never afford because of all the additional associated costs (boat slip, boat trailer, maintenance). We did figure, though, that for the amount of days we would actually use a boat, we could rent one five times a year and not have to worry about all those additional costs. Next summer?

9. A new dishwasher. I think I need one. It is actually more environmentally friendly to use a dishwasher than to wash dishes by hand. Our dishwasher works for the most part, but sometimes I end up having to leave half the dishes in for another wash or take them out and wash them by hand. Maybe I'll get a new one of those before I get a camera.

10. Time. Yes. Time is a luxury. It seems there is never enough of it. Not enough for sleep, to make myself lunch, to knit, to watch my favorite TV show. To quote one of my new favorite blogs, "If only the days were a little bit longer."

What's on your wishlist?
