Another Precious Moment

Every night since Cameron came home from the hospital he and I have shared a bedtime routine. It starts with a bath (obviously not when he was a newborn). Then we read books. His favorite was "Goodnight Moon", then he was really into "The Going to Bed Book" and "Pajama Time". Now his favorites are "Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother Too?" by Eric Carle and "I Love You Through and Through". Now to the most special part of the night. He kisses Fischer and Sydney, then gives love to his Daddy (if he's not working:( Then while Cameron and I are climbing the stairs, he clings tightly to me while I sing "Baby Sleep Tonight - Sam's Song", which I changed to "Cam's Song". I have been singing it every night since he was born and in the back of my mind wonder, as we rock in the rocking chair, if it is something he looks forward to at night or misses if I am away, knowing that the answer is yes, but still sometimes wondering. Tonight, for the first time, Cameron told me how much the song has meant in his life. He sang along! No, he didn't get all the words right, but I could tell he was singing along. And when he realized I was taking notice, he looked up at me with his beautiful grin that said, "See Mom, I listen!" It was a precious moment.
